                                                             The Colony Club

Founded in 1903 by some of the city’s wealthiest matrons, the Colony Club is a private women’s establishment with an elegant clubhouse at Park Avenue and 62nd Street. The club’s members represent the finest of New York society and the clubhouse—which includes a basement swimming pool, a two-story ballroom, squash courts, and even a kennel where members can check their pets--was designed to serve their needs.

Among the club’s famous members were Emily Post, Frances Hodgson Burnett (author of The Secret Garden), and the anti-poverty activist Jane Addams. Although the club is open to members only, anyone can view its handsome Colonial-style building.
