Etching of a 19th century African-American

Epiphany Davis, an African-American laborer, was one of the original owners of land in Seneca Village. In 1825, Davis purchased twelve lots around 85th street for $578. Not much is known about Davis beyond this but is he sometimes referred to as one of Seneca Village’s founders, which is why I made him keeper of the spring.
