New York Public Library Map Room

Want to see the real Viele maps of New York City? Stop in at one of the most beautiful rooms in the New York Public Library—room 117. Under its ornate gilt ceiling, the map division room is home to some 431,000 maps, including one dating all the way back to 1545. Anyone can take a look at these maps-- I was even able to get photocopies of Egbert Viele’s maps during my visit. As Jack notes in The Twilight Prisoner, maps are everywhere in this room, even on the face of the clock.
